Through this video, strEAT Snax brings to you an Afghani culinary rendition, located in the bye-lanes of a busy south Delhi market, Lajpat Nagar. We bring to you the streetscape and the range of cuisine of the famed restaurant, Kabul Delhi. Established a few years ago by Irshad Ahmed, a Delhiite and Hashmat from Kabul, the restaurant’s name is symbolic of coming together of two civilizations and the close bond between our two countries. Our team enjoyed eating the Mantu or steamed dumplings of spiced minced lamb and onions, served with garlic yoghurt and rajma or kidney beans, garnished with coriander or mint leaves, and captured it in all its glory. Its vegetarian counterpart is known as Ashak. The nature of the dish reiterates how cuisine is a conjunction of flavour and temperature.
In addition to experimental and authentic Afghani taste, Kabul Delhi stands for a unique cultural assimiliation of two varying cultures, customs, tastes and culinary preparations.
