Can you DUPLICATE items with the new ALLAY mob?

I've heard a lot of confusion about the Allay, which is Mob B in the Minecraft Mob Vote for 2021.

Does the Allay let you duplicate items, is it a dupe exploit waiting to happen? Here's the answer and some clarification, based on Minecraft developer tweets from kingbdogz and others.

This second mob for the 2021 Minecraft Live mob vote is called the Allay. The first one was the Glare mob. But there seems to be a lot of confusion around the Allay mob in particular, and if the Allay mob's item collection lets you duplicate items or not.

First of all, Mojang wouldn't allow such an obvious exploit.

Secondly, they have explicitly come out and confirmed that this is NOT how it works. The video clarifies further :)
