10 Worst Places to Live and Work in England

What are the worst places to live and work in England? The love and goodwill enjoyed by England has permeated throughout the entire United Kingdom. There are plenty of good places to live and work with better salaries in England. You’ll always find something to do and somewhere to lay your heads among the best places to live in England once you scale the immigration hurdles. However, no matter how much I love England, I can’t shy away from the fact: it’s not everywhere there that is so safe to live and work. If there are the best and safest places to live and work, there must be worst places using the same yardstick. Based on factors such as workplace accidents, mental health, crime levels, sickness, and death, I hereby present the 10 worst places to live and work in England.

10. Wigan
A sports lover will always see something fine and good about Wigan, a large town in Greater Manchester, on the River Douglas. Though it witnessed an economic expansion and rapid population growth when it was a major mill and coal mining town, all that are now warehouses and cultural and heritage centers. However, the DW Stadium still has positive effects on the town as the home of Wigan Athletic Football Club. The Wigan Warriors Rugby League Football Club also ply their trade on the soil.
Since 2016, Wigan has been on top of the list of worst places to live and work in England. Consider what the data from UK Safety and Wellbeing Index for last year shows. The rate of death in the town was the second-highest of the 40 places surveyed. It recorded a high rate of work-related injuries. On a scale of 1 to 100, the mental health issues and crimes reported were 41 and 23 respectively while it scored as high as 86 in the rate of sickness.
9. Sunderland
The case of Sunderland, a port and industrial city, is also noteworthy as one of the worst places to live and work in England. It is near the mouth of the River Wear that flows through Sunderland and the city of Durham. It is located within the historic Durham County.
