Footwork doesn’t mean what you think it means. Please stop misusing the word FOOT WORK
Published at : November 30, 2021
Everyone who has ever uploaded a video of their boxing or kickboxing training on a heavy bag or hitting focus mitts has been told a thousand times by the undefeated ninja experts of the internet how bad their “form” is. They have been virtually yelled at by strangers who don’t even train about how they “have no power”. And most egregiously of all, these faceless pseudo boxing experts of the internet like to say “you have no footwork”.
That’s not even how the term foot work is used properly in sentence!
Let’s settle this: what footwork is and what footwork isn’t.
Footwork is not dancing or hopping around for the same or looking pretty. Footwork IS simply how a fighter moves his or her feet during any specific technique.
For example: if your opponent is standing right in front of you, then you don’t need any fancy footwork to hit him with a jab right from your stance. But if he’s slightly out of reach, you’re going to have to take a step to reach him or bait him to step toward you to reach him.
And if you are a grappler, footwork is just as important. If you don’t move your feet relative to your opponent, nothing happens.
So, to the fake experts of the YouTube comments section, please stop using that word until you finally learn what it means!
