Different questions are being raised by fans and followers of Dr John Watts are flooding his series of hugely popular educational videos with queries related to hair transplants and hair growth issues.
In this educational video, noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts answers select shortlisted questions of viewers related to hair growth, hair hall and hair transplant.
M Bhaskar asks: Sir, I work as a driver and have to travel to different places. I have no option but to take a head bath with the available water. I suspect that due to the water change there is salt and fluoride deposit formation on my scalp. My doubt is that won’t such deposition clog and block my hair roots and lead to hair loss? Please advise.
In his response, Dr John Watts informs Bhaskar that salt or fluoride deposition on the scalp can clog sweat pores and the oil glands but the hair roots are not damaged in any way.
“The hair roots remain unaffected with salt or fluoride deposits but your sweat pores and sebaceous glands can get blocked. Uncleared blockage may lead to inflammation and the formation of pustules. This may result in hair loss,” explained Dr John.
Though new hair will grow eventually as the hair roots are not damaged, it is better to avoid experimenting with different types of water for a head bath as a precautionary step.
Prakash asks: Sir, will indulging in masturbation lead to hair loss? Please explain.
In his response, Dr John Watts tells Prakash that it is a myth and a misconception that many have. “I have answered this question on numerous occasions. Masturbation should be seen as normal for any gender and it has no link with hair loss,” explained Dr John.
He said that many get this notion as the testosterone sex hormone is wrongly linked to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a genetic form of baldness.
