The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, the Department of Forestry Fisheries and the Environment as well as the Petroleum Agency of South Africa are holding a conference in Cape Town today where the main discussion point is the co-existence of the upstream petroleum and fishing industries in South Africa. This is a contentious issue as the government seeks to boost investment in the upstream industry to boost the economy and jobs, while being mindful of managing the country's carbon footprint and the impact these activities have on the likes of fishermen. To discuss further, I'm joined by Shonisani Manyaga, Snr Economist at the DMRE.
